Eksplorasi Faktor Risiko Malaria Pada Balita di Kampung Workwana Kabupaten Keerom

Malaria remains a public health problem in Indonesia. In 2023, 120 malaria-related deaths were recorded out of 3,464 cases. The proportion of infected children was 91% among those aged 0-11 months and 12% among those aged 1-4 years. In the same year, malaria ranked third (17.4%) among the ten most common diseases at the Keerom Community Health Center (Puskesmas). The living environment in Workwana Village is generally humid, with bushes, tall trees, stagnant water, and several uninhabitable houses. This study aimed to identify risk factors associated with malaria incidence among children under five in Workwana Village. It was a survey study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 58 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the instrument "Risk Factors for Malaria Incidence in Children Under Five." The age of the child, history of contact, type of house flooring material, and place of residence were significantly associated with malaria incidence among children under five (p < 0.05). These variables are risk factors for malaria among children under five in Workwana Village. Improving housing quality and strengthening region-based environmental interventions should be part of malaria control strategies.
